Hello, bloggy friends :)
We were so blessed to have Mickey Connelly preach at CCC on Sunday, and his words for parents were so encouraging. He told the story of Newton's life, whom I believe he said was the one later depicted partnered with the fictional Wilburforce in the movie Amazing Grace. He was a big slavedriver in life, but the encouraging part of his life story was that his mom had taught him about God, and planted those seeds, before she died when he was 8- and although his dad was not a God-honoring man and Newton himself did not lead a God-honoring life ( in fact, he grew hostile to believers later in life)- Newton remembered what his mom had taught him about God and even in the throes of Alzhiemer's, and on his death bed, he remembered that he was a great sinner and God is a great savior. How encouraging is that!
Mommies, and Daddies, keep up the good work of planting seeds~ I know I will be!

But this story hit another note with me. My own life up till now was similar to Newton's in many ways, I think. I had a grandmother who prayed for me and taught me about God when I was very small, and although my mother was not deceased she was deceased from planting into my life for all intensive purposes (as she was suffering in mental illness)and my father was MIA. I grew up knowing about God from my grandmother, but hostile about things I had seen and lived through and not reconciling them well with who God is. I wasn't hostile to believers, but I was unfortunately hostile in my mind towards God in being angry about my parent's situations. But! God did not let go of me, even if I didn't want to be held in :) Much like Newton! I thank God for His faithfullness to us and how He chooses to hear our prayers! And for praying grandmothers and mom's!

"You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds, O God our savior!
Psalm 65:5
